In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often find ourselves drowning in responsibilities and deadlines, gasping for a breath of fresh air. Little do we realize that the elusive oxygen we seek is not in the crisp mountain air or the ocean breeze but in something far simpler – FUN. Yes, you heard it right! FUN
is the unsung hero, the silent oxygen that keeps our souls alive and kicking.

What is YOUR definition of FUN?

FUN, for me, is like an exhilarating dance party for the soul. It’s those moments when you toss aside all your worries, turn up the music, and let your inner goofball take center stage. It’s the butterflies in your tummy. The pain on your cheeks from laughing so hard. The goose pimples and the tears streaming from your eyes.  It’s like being where you need to be at that moment for that moment.

Whether it’s belting out my favorite song in the shower or attempting the latest TikTok dance craze (and failing spectacularly), it’s those little moments that make life a joyous ride.

But the definition of FUN can’t be limited. Sometimes it can be found in the weirdest places; everyone’s got their own unique take on what FUN is!

For me, it’s spending a day in the art studio and painting a beautiful scene.  For my husband, placing his hands on clay does it for him.   It also depends how I am feeling, the time of day, the day of the week, the day I have had.  My definition of FUN evolves as the time goes by.

I love the thrill of a roller coaster ride and the tranquility of a good book. I find FUN in hiking 7 plus miles in the morning and creating paper art in the evening.

Everyone has their own definition. So, what’s your personal definition of FUN? Drop your thoughts in the comments below and let’s create a mosaic of laughter and joy.

What are some synonyms for FUN?

FUN has a ton of synonyms. Each captures a different facet of this magical elixir!!! I Laughter, the universal language that transcends borders.  Joy, the warm fuzzy feeling that wraps around you like a warm tequila shot. Shenanigans, the mischievous adventures that make life VERY spicy.

And then there’s that special kind of FUN – the kind that makes another laugh. The kind that makes YOU laugh, at yourself!  The impromptu trip and slide on a tiny crack on the floor while balancing your cup of coffee. You know, the kind of unexpected delight that turns a mundane day into a memorable one.

Embracing these synonyms is like having a secret code to unlock the doors of the soul.
How many of these have found a cozy spot in your life?

Will FUN ever make a comeback from its mysterious disappearance during
adulthood responsibilities?

Ah, the million-dollar question!!!! As we navigate the maze of adulthood, responsibilities seem to multiply faster than rabbits, and FUN often takes a back seat.

For me, work became a “Non-FUN place” to be at every day.   You spend countless hours working on company goals, managing people, meeting deadlines, that you forget to have FUN.
The weekends no longer become a time to have FUN but the time to catch
up on household chores and decompressing.
You also forget to have FUN.  You work, work, work, and you are so tired, sometimes you don’t even care to have or seek FUN. This is what we call “burnout”.  But I still have hope!  Perhaps FUN is not lost; maybe it’s just on a sabbatical, planning a grand comeback. At least, if I have anything to do with it.

Think about it – when was the last time you had a genuine, belly-aching laugh that made you forget about your everyday list? Can FUN and responsibilities coexist, or are they destined to remain star-crossed lovers? Share your thoughts below, and let’s embark on a quest to rediscover the lost art of balancing FUN and adulting.

When did FUN break up with responsibilities, leaving us with a complicated relationship status?

“When did FUN decide to swipe left on Responsibilities, leaving us with a relationship status more complicated than deciphering a GPS with a mind of its own? Did they have a messy breakup during a serious board meeting, with FUN storming out, leaving Responsibilities drowning in pie charts and flowcharts? Or was it a dramatic exit during tax season, realizing that FUN and spreadsheets are like oil and water – they just don’t mix?

All the above happened to me!  Working and keeping up with life made it complicated to find FUN. Not finding the time to do the things I wanted to do.  The places I wanted to go to.  The things I wanted to experience was being stifled by an everyday job I hated doing.  It no longer became about the fat salary! Keeping a job, one of the most necessary I was taught to, was now becoming a nuisance. My job got in the way of making time for FUN.

But hey, who says exes can’t be friends? I figure it’s time for some relationship counseling to reunite this dynamic duo! Maybe I can sprinkle a little humor during tax season will rekindle the flame. Let’s brainstorm in the comments below on how to get FUN and Responsibilities back together and make our relationship status a little less ‘it’s complicated’ and a lot more “Let’s have FUN, it’s a party’!”

So, how can you find more FUN in everyday life?

Here are some tips I use for injecting FUN into my daily life
even if responsibilities take over:

·         Embrace the Power of Micro-Adventures: Turn mundane activities into mini adventures. Whether it’s a grocery shopping race or a creative commute, inject a sprinkle of excitement into the everyday. Maybe create a scavenger hunt with your grocery list.  Use a timer. See how quickly you can get your chores done.

·         Cultivate a Playful Mindset: Approach challenges with a playful attitude. Turn problem-solving into a game. Watch how it transforms the way you tackle responsibilities.

·         Create a FUN Playlist: Curate a playlist that energizes your day. Let music be the soundtrack to your life, turning even the most routine tasks into a dance-worthy affair.

·         Lunch Break Shenanigans: Use your lunch break to unwind and have some FUN. A funny podcast, a stroll in the park, make your midday break a mini celebration. Take your dog on a walk during lunch.  How about a game?  Table tennis is a good way to play out your work frustrations and come back feeling FUN-tastic!!!

·         Surprise Yourself: Incorporate an element of surprise into your routine. Try a new recipe, take a different route home, or randomly pick an activity from a “FUN jar” to keep life exciting. Learn a new tool.  I have surprised myself by learning Canva #learncanva to create these posts. Tapping into my creative side is always FUN for me!
